2023 Insect-O-Rama at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center. Every year the MDC puts on an event to teach kids about insects. The Missouri Trout Fishermen’s Association-Springfield Chapter tied flies on safety pins to illustrate the relationship between insects, fish, and people. Among other teaching points, there was a bug tasting station, focusing on meal worms and crickets as sources of protein. Other topics were metamorphosis, aquatic insect identification, pollination, butterflies and moths, and much more. It’s always fun for the kids and we had fun, too.
