A number of years ago, Larry Wegmann was teaching a fly Tying class at Pipkin school in Springfield.  They were tying a Crackle back but one of the student add peacock tails.  He tied in two or  three peacock herls and then made a loop to the back and tried in the herl.  Once tied in, he cut the loop and had the tails.  When they used the fly on one of their fishing trip, it caught fish.  We know that the Crackle Back is a good fish catching fly but with the added tails only improved its fish catching.  Larry named the fly the Pipkin Crackle Back.
